Linux System Administrator
Hewlett-Packard is expanding the web platform team responsible to support the rapidly growing customer base of HP's highly publicized and new web-connected printers using ePrint, Print Apps, Scheduled Content Delivery and much more. This team is critical path to the successful code deployment, infrastructure maintenance, operational continuity, and positive customer experience with an install base of over 10 million (and growing over 1 million per month). We are looking for people with 3 + years of experience as an application system administrator who are energized to work within a start-up like environment (but with the benefits of HP's resources). We need individuals who are self-motivated, able to deliver under pressure, and interested in working within a group with global influence and recognition with teams from every printer division within HP.
Qualifications
Critical Core Skills:
· Linux deep systems experience including diagnosing performance problems related to network issues, and memory/CPU utilization.
· Previous experience in horizontal "scale out" architectures (ie LAMP), especially around diagnosing bottlenecks and optimizing each of the tiers of the application.
· RDBMS experience (preferably MySQL) including understanding schema migration, database monitoring, and overall database architectural issues.
· Deep experience with system monitoring including writing test scripts and maintaining the quality of notifications and the overall dashboard.
· Experience managing servers in large corporate environments, including security, policy compliance, and exception processes.
Critical management skills:
· Anticipating needs and planning for changes to infrastructure.
· Solid communication skills with distributed R&D teams whose code is being supported.
· Understanding the pace and urgency of supporting customer-facing web applications.
Desirable skills: Python, splunk, Oracle, Mercury BAC.
