ETL Database Developer and Admin

The Global Trading Research and Analytics team monitors trade activity and performs analysis to discover, evaluate and propose new ways to minimize our trading impact in the marketplace.

We use highly customized tools, developed and supported in-house, for the analysis of our trades in the equity, currency, futures and fixed income markets. This is a high profile group which directly impacts the performance of our funds by providing tools for traders and portfolio managers to make intelligent decisions on trade timing and strategy. Sitting on the trading floor, team members are close to the excitement of the markets.

We are seeking a new member to help design and develop our next generation quantitative trading analytics ETL and database systems. The job requires a diverse technical background in as well as rudimentary understanding of the financial marketplace.

Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop and support our next generation data platform: Load financial data from various data source, transform data via scripting and stored procedures, and ultimately load into data stores for application and reporting purposes.
  • Working within a small agile team, wear multiple IT hats: perform rudimentary DB and Unix server maintenance & administration in a shared support function.
  • Interface with technical and business groups to gather requirements / feedback
  • Assist in creating and automating management reports.
  • Support existing processes, workflows and applications.
  • Be a very hands-on team player, working well with other technologists across the firm and multitasking effectively to track and respond to client requests in a timely manner.

Qualifications:
  • 6+ years database development experience (DDL/DML, stored procedures, data modeling, maintenance). Strong MySql experience preferred.
  • 5+ years UNIX experience. Scripting (e.g. shell, perl, alerts, cron, automation)
  • 5+ experience loading large data sets: Scripting, Talend, Kettle, Informatica all pluses.
  • Prior unix server and/or DB admin / maintenance experience preferred.
  • Willing to do occasional off-hours maintenance and support.
  • BS or MS in Computer Science or related field.
  • Experience in creating business user reports desired.
  • Passionate about working within the financial industry and cultivating relationships with business and technology partners. Industry knowledge of financial trading operations is preferable
  • Experience with modern OO programming languages/practices a plus. E.g. Java, Ruby.
  • Excellent communication skills
