Summary of Position
Manager responsible for financial management and business practices for the NG Education Programs Division (NGEP) and the NG Education Foundation. Participate in every aspect of budget process including: assisting in creation of annual budget for NGEP and in monitoring and reporting on budget throughout the year. Responsible for compliance with National Geographic processes and procedures . Responsible for selection, implementation and monitoring of financial, personnel and productivity systems and processes for the division, including: uses of technology, workflow systems, space and HR issues.

Responsibilities
Budget Process and Financial Planning- Facilitate the budget development with the VP and management team of NGEP and Foundation including oversight of budget reporting and projection throughout the year in coordination with Director, Financial Planning & Analysis, Mission Programs; supervision of day-to-day financial operations (including time reporting, expense reimbursement, check requests and purchase requisitions); monitoring and reporting for the Foundation Endowment Funds (consisting of 30+ individual funds); coordination w/Corporate Finance and Development Office on financial issues. Assist in building business models and contract structures to help management team in the decision making process.
Business Systems/practices- Design and implement policies, procedures, and systems to improve department productivity. Establish policies and procedures for contracts management, business continuity and project development; train management and staff on these practices; monitor their use for adherence and continual improvement. Select and deploy appropriate technological tools to support business practices, including: project management software, collaboration tools, and departmental IS/IT protocols; train management staff, and contractors on those systems.
Project tracking and grants compliance – Establish and oversee systems for tracking project staff time, deliverables, and other requirements for compliance with terms of external grants, including $ 1M+/year of federal grant expenses.
Human Resources- Coordinate hiring and performance review processes for all management, staff, and contractors, serve as department liaison w/HR, foster community building and staff morale, plan and manage staff events and activities, manage all NGEP space and assets, and supervise department logistics.
Special Projects- Works on special initiatives at the request of the VP, NGEP & Foundation and the Director, Financial Planning & Analysis, Mission Programs.
Minimum Education & Experience
Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Business Administration, Accounting, or related field
equired: 3-6 years experience in accounting or financial planning
Knowledge & Skill Requirements
Understanding of non-profit accounting. Experience with endowments and/or federal awards highly desirable. Experience with enterprise financial and business systems desirable. Position requires strong strategic thinking, organizational, communication and interpersonal skills. Customer service oriented.
