Job Description Health Informatics can be defined as the intersection of Information Technology and Medical Device, the goal of which may be to optimize the availability of information, to improve medical care & outcomes, and / or to reduce costs, among others. Abbott Diabetes care is searching for a Project Leader to work within the Health Informatics space to identify, develop, and commercialize Health Informatics solutions that will deliver value to our customers.
Prefer candidates with past experience in development and/or deployment of Health Informatics/ IT, Electronic Health Records, and similar initiatives.
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Define, coordinate, integrate, and drive ADC worldwide R&D, Operations, Regulatory, and Commercial activities associated with an Informatics development project or projects. Report product development status and progress to ADC Management. Participate in and coordinate ADC strategic product direction for Informatics segment. Participate in and coordinate ADC project selection and feature determination. Serve as product line champion during the definition, planning, development, launch, and post launch phases. Provide significant technical input and guidance to the Engineering Team during development.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic: Integrate customer needs, technical capability, and business drivers to propose and drive product strategy for multiple programs in a business area. Communicate product development program status to development teams and ADC management. Balance product quality, performance, time to market, and cost issues in order to meet ADC goals. Provide the forum to facilitate communication, problem solving, and goal alignment between technical, operational, and commercial organizations prior to and through product launch. Work with functional leadership to determine and ensure appropriate resource availability and assignments. Tactical: Generate, manage, and direct ADC product development launch plans for multiple programs within a market segment. Provide leadership to individual program managers. Prioritize activities among several programs to balance resource availability, program status and schedule, and business need. Work with functional leadership to anticipate and solve problems, and work to breakdown barriers in program management. Manage regular review meetings, at various levels, with project teams representing R&D, Operations, QA/RA, Marketing, and Commercial areas. Hold management reviews with Senior ADC management to communicate program development and schedule status. Manage product roll out from engineering prototype, through beta, pilot, and limited launch, to unlimited launch. Manage product market specific configurations through launch. Present appropriate product development metrics to communicate status of product development. Manage and coordinate product launch plans including development, marketing, sales, regulatory, and operations. Follow an increasingly complex and evolving Design Control system throughout for product development activities. Regulatory: Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system. Responsible for compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and performing other duties as assigned by management. ACCOUNTABILITY / SCOPE:
This position is responsible for the product definition and development, and preparation of all departments for a successful timely launch of a quality product meeting the ADC business and product strategies. These programs typically represent a range of 2 to 15 million in annual R&D funding. Successful launch of these programs can represent a range of 50 to 250 million annually in new ADC business over the LRP. This position is highly visible and accountable, responsible for directing, and reporting to Senior Management the activities in new product development and launch for multiple products. This position is responsible to execute program management activities on multiple products and execution of specific assignments in setting up development and launch processes. This position is responsible for the management of a small number of program managers.
The organizational responsibilities include indirect responsibility for people across all ADC departments (QA/RA, R&D, Operations, Marketing, and Finance) working on launch, for multiple products. The incumbent would have several years experience in previous roles encompassing various organizational responsibilities.
Skills/Experience Requirements Several years of product development in a medical diagnostic retail or hospital product are desired. Broader experiences in the areas of Operations, QA/RA, Finance, Sales, and/or Marketing, are desired. Strong technical experience in program management with excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential. Experience working in a development environment with a disciplined development process for very quality-sensitive applications. Experience in writing product requirements and design specifications. Experience in working on a development team with an emphasis on minimizing time to market. Experience in design for manufacture for high quality medical products, preferably. Experience in designing medical devices in an FDA regulated environment is desirable. Experience working in team environments is required. This position requires the ability to collect information from multiple sources, sort through, integrate, and resolve often conflicting requirements, and drive an organization through the various issues to result in a successful product launch.
Education Requirements Bachelors degree in a business or a technical discipline with 7 years of relevant experience or a Masters degree with 5 years of experience.
