As a world leader in public sector ratings services, S&P Public Finance provides objective, independent benchmarks of the creditworthiness of municipalities, public agencies, government-owned facilities and not-for-profit organizations. The S&P Ratings Public Finance Municipal Enterprise team is seeking a Rating Analyst for the Chicago office. This business sector rates not-for-profits, hospitals, higher educations institutions, charter schools and senior living facilities. The hiring manager works from the S&P office in Dallas.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
• Analyze & report on financial, technical and other date to be utilized in S&P debt ratings activities;
• Prepare material for publication;
• Prepares research and analysis using ratings methodology and standards essential for active participation in S&P debt rating activities;
• Informs issuer or his representative of Rating Committee's decisions and to the extent possible, commensurate with experience, explains rating rationale;
• Participates in Rating Committee meetings prior to voting, as assigned;
• Contacts debt issuers, or their representatives, for necessary or additional information;
• Participates in meetings and on-site visits with debt issuers and their representatives, as assigned;
• In accordance with departmental policies, reviews prior debt ratings at prescribed intervals and recommends appropriate action to the Rating Committee Board;
• Prepares material for S&P publication.

Skills
Qualifications include but are not limited to the following:
- The ability to work with financial models, data an information;
- 1 - 3 years of relevant work experience;
- Advanced Degree in public policy, economics or finance is preferred; Bachelor's degree required;
- Proficiency in Financial Statement Analysis required;
- Proficiency in Excel modeling is required;
- The ability and the desire to publish under deadline pressure;
- Good problem solving skills
- Strong analytical skills
- The ability and the desire to work independently and to collaborate with colleagues in other regional offices
- Customer Service Orientation
- 1 - 3 years of relevant work experience;
